Welcome to the County of San Benito Parks & Recreation Commission Website

By unanimous vote, the San Benito County Board of Supervisors established the Parks and Recreation Commission on December 6, 2006. Dedicated to the enhancement of park and recreation opportunities in the county, this advisory commission makes recommendations to the Board on the:

• Use of existing county park facilities
• Need for future park facilities
• Development of recreational activities and programs
• Use of federal, state, and local funds for parks and recreation facilities and activities
• Joint use of park facilities
• Coordination with federal, state, and local parks and recreation agencies to enhance the use of park facilities throughout the county

Parks and Recreation Community Workshops

The Parks and Recreation Facilities Master Plan was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in July 2010!  The plan was developed with input from numerous agendies, organizations, and residents of San Benito County.  The plan provides a vision for parks and recreation in San Benito County and identifies a program to achieve the vision.

The commission is committed to provide opportunities for physical acitivity in San Benito County by facilitating the development of a diversity of park facilities and recreation programs for youth, young adults, families, seniors, and all physical abilities; considering agriturism, historical and cultural preservation, and ecotourism; and, the coordination of parkland and recreation opportunities in San Benito County, including Federal, State, County, City, School Dsitrict, and privately owned facilities.

The Parks and Recreation Commission wants to hear from you!  The implementation of the master plan is underway!  Applications will be submitted to the State of California in July 2011 for grant funding to support the development of parks and recreation facilities.  Attend one of the Community Workshops or provide your input directly to the Commission through the on-line survey!
