The Office of the Tax Collector is responsible for the billing, collections, record management and receipt reconciliation of Secured, Supplemental and Unsecured property taxes. The Tax Collector’s staff is available to assist individual taxpayers and mortgage professionals with questions regarding tax status, defaulted or delinquent tax payments, lot line adjustments, tax clearances, mobile homes, and payment plans for delinquent property.
Secured taxes are levied on real property, such as land and structures attached to land. Unsecured taxes are based on the value of personal property, such as business fixtures, boats and aircrafts. Supplemental taxes are an adjustment in the value of real property.
PROPERTY TAXES DUE
Secured tax bills are mailed on or before November 1st, to all property owners, at the addresses shown on the tax roll. If you own property in San Benito County and did not receive a tax bill by November 10th, you can print a copy of your bill from this website. Click on “View Tax Bill” located on the right side ”Links” menu and follow the instructions.

FIRST INSTALLMENT of taxes is due and payable on November 1st, and will become delinquent if not paid by 5:00 pm, or the close of business, whichever is later, on December 10th; thereafter a 10% penalty will be added.
Both installments may be paid when the first installment is due.
SECOND INSTALLMENT of taxes is due and payable on February 1st, and will become delinquent if not paid by 5:00 pm, or the close of business, whichever is later, on April 10th; thereafter a 10% penalty and $17.50 cost fee will be charged. The second installment can not be paid until the first installment has been paid.
CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS As of June 30th, 2011 credit card and e-check payments will not be accepted at the office window. Credit card and e-check payments will only be accepted on-line or over the phone.
CHANGE IN FEE SCHEDULES
Effective January 2010 a $7.00 fee for reminders on delinquent payments will be added to the secured and supplemental bills. This fee is incurred for each reminder notice generated on individual assessment numbers. Delinquent notices may be mailed out twice a year after each payment deadline.
Effective October 2009 the cost fee for delinquent secured and delinquent supplemental payments will be increased from $10.00 to $17.50. This fee is incurred when the second payment becomes delinquent.
UNSECURED TAXES are due by 5:00 pm on August 31st. If August 31st falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a legal Holiday, the time of delinquency is 5:00 pm on the next business day. Failure to make payment in full by the stated delinquency date will result in a 10% penalty. Other charges and fees may be incurred.
